When I started this trip on Friday it took me a couple hours to get used to riding the loaded bike again. But now? Seems normal. Something else I’ve noticed is that I’ve lost track of which day of the week it is. On a trip like this, one day is pretty much like the one before it and the one after. Except on this day…….Glacier National Park and the Going to the Sun Road!
I might as well be done riding after today, since I don’t think there’s anything else in this country that can top Glacier. It was simply incredible.
Didn’t see a grizzly in the campground last night, and I was a little disappointed. The wind blew hard all night and into the morning, so that might have had something to do with that? Maybe not.
After Glacier I headed for Eureka, Montana where I was 8 miles from Canada. Then I turned south and rode for 30 or 40 miles along the east shore of big Lake Koocanusa. Then through Idaho and a few miles into Washington. Lots of smoke on the Idaho-Washington border, with really strong winds.
Completely calm now, though. I’m at a KOA campground that is a few miles off the highway, and it’s a first-class campground. 325 sites, but it’s the end of the season and the check-in dude said there’re only 5 sites being used tonight. Feels like a ghost camp! Kind of weird, actually.
Tomorrow I’m staying at the eastern edge of the Cascades. Should be a shorter ride, which my body is ready for!
You really can’t capture Glacier in a photo, but I tried. Have a look!
