In September and October 2023 I completed a 22-day motorcycle trip around the western United States, covering somewhere between 5,500 and 6,000 miles on my 2023 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro. I camped most nights along the way, though I did rent a Vrbo in Seattle for three nights, stayed with my brother-in-law in Oregon for two nights, and opted for hotels on a few of the longer or miserable-weather days.
This post includes a video walkthrough of how I packed the bike, my packing list arranged by where items were located, and a photo gallery of the loaded bike.

Packing list
This is everything I brought on the trip as far as I can recall. Figuring out what you may or may not need for 22 days of riding can be tough, and a few of these items were never used.
Compared to bikepacking on a mountain bike, a motorcycle can carry a lot more gear. This can be a good thing, but you can get carried away with it also. I tried to take a somewhat-minimalist approach to this trip, and in retrospect, I think I would take even less stuff in the future.
Wolfman Expedition Duffle
The Reckless 80 comes with a 20L dry bag meant to be located under the beavertail. For this trip I wanted more space than the 20L had to offer so I swapped that out with a waterproof, roll-top Wolfman Expedition Duffle.
My theory with individual dry bags inside this waterproof duffle is this: if I have to set up the tent in the rain, the stuff inside the dry bags will stay dry until they can be moved into the tent after it is set up.
- REI “Taj 3” 2-person tent (did not take the tent’s stuff sack)
- Tent poles (in the Mosko tent pole bag, outside the duffle, strapped to the R80 beavertail)
- Tent stakes
- Sea to Summit sleeping pad in its own stuff sack (not a dry bag)
- Small hatchet for pounding tent stakes
- 13″ MacBook Pro in Aquaquest computer dry bag
- MacBook charger
- Blue Mosko Moto lightweight dry sack (this was included with the R80 – I used it as a laundry bag)
