Slept for about 8 hours last night, so didn’t leave as early as I’d hoped. Longest day yet, mileage wise. I didn’t think the scenery up to Glacier would be too good, but it actually was. And leaves are starting to fall in northwest Montana, by the way.
Passed a motorcycle accident about 80 miles south of Kalispell, with paramedics on the scene. Then in Kalispell I watched a new rider drop his Harley at a gas station, so I helped him and his friend pick it up. Don’t people know these things are dangerous?!?
The wind really picked up about three hours from the end. A helmet-tossing, bike-leaning kind of wind. Then it backed off while I sat up camp and ate my freeze-dried meals (yes, two meals!), but it’s blowing again pretty strong as I write this in my tent, waiting to see if my camp will pass the grizzly bear test.
When I checked in here at the St. Mary KOA campground I asked about bears and they said a grizzly was spotted numerous times last night and this morning in the campground, all around my present campsite.
My plan for tomorrow, God willing, is to enter Glacier National Park from the east side and ride the Going to the Sun Road, cross the panhandle of Idaho, then make my way to a campground just inside the Washington border.
And my rear wheel stayed aligned all day today. Really wish I knew why it was out of alignment yesterday.
Good night, all!
